Manchester United have reportedly made a bid worth £25m to lure Cesc Fabregas back to England, according to Sky.
Sky reports that The Barcelona midfielder has repeatedly said he wants to stay at
his hometown club despite difficulty winning over some supporters last
season.
That was his second year back in Catalonia following his return from
Arsenal, who reportedly have first refusal on Fabregas if Barca decide
to sell.
United's offer is believed to be below Barcelona's valuation of the Spain international.
United are searching for a creative midfield presence to offset the loss of newly-retired Paul Scholes.
Fabregas would become the second former Arsenal captain at Old
Trafford, alongside Robin van Persie, if the Premier League champions
managed to pull off a deal.
And according to the Sun it was reported that David Moyes wants to kick off his Old Trafford regime by making Barcelona’s
former Arsenal star his first major signing.
And the new United chief has made his move for the ex-Gunner after arriving in
Australia on the club’s summer tour.
Fabregas quit the Premier League in 2011 when he left the Emirates to head
home to Catalonia.
But he has failed to nail down a permanent first XI spot at the Nou Camp and
had been tipped with a move away this summer.
The Spain ace, 26, last season admitted he would leave the Catalans if they
made it clear he was no longer wanted.
And United’s bid this afternoon could spark a bidding war with Arsenal, who
have first refusal on the midfielder.
