Martinez has been
the favourite to replace Manchester United recent manager David Moyes at Goodison Park as Everton manager, and having
recently won the FA cup for Wigan
Athletic he is bid to replace David Moyes at Everton.
Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright promised a
thorough search for Moyes' replacement, but in truth only negotiations over a
compensation package to secure Martinez
and his backroom team have delayed an announcement in recent days.
Now that Martinez
is in place he can begin the challenge of building on Everton's current top six
status.
He is used to working under certain budget
restraints at Wigan and yet still created one
of the most attractive football sides in the Premier League.
Relegation did not impact on the Catalan's
reputation which was in fact enhanced by the many elite scalps he took,
particularly on the FA Cup run.
Everton may consider their own 3-0 defeat at the
hands of Wigan in the quarter-final as the symbolic moment when Moyes era ended
and Martinez
was readied to replace him.
