It was reported that Arsenal
winger Gervinho will be heading to the exit door in the Emirates, after
Marseille says they are interested in the Ivorian.
The 26-year-old player joined the Gunners for £11
million from Lille
in 2011, but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. He has made
30 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals 7 assist.
With Arsene Wenger having £70 million in his
kitty to spend on new players Gervinho could be replaced by a big-name signing
this summer, with the likes Real Madrid’s Higuain and Fiorentina’s Jovetic been
linked to the gunners as his likely replacements.
Taking into account Theo Walcott’s prolificacy
and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s maturing, the number of appearances for Gervinho
could be severely limited next season.
Asked if they are interested in signing Gervinho,
Marseille assistant coach Franck Passi said: ‘This is a profile that interests
us, yes. We want flank players, with dribbling, passing and scoring and
Gervinho has this profile.’ He says.
